INGREDIENTS:
1 package graham crackers (12 full sheets), finely crumbled
1/2 cup sugar, divided
1 stick (1/2 cup) butter
1 teaspoon cinnamon
6 medium to large cooking apples, peeled, cored and chopped
COOKING TOOLS:
2 Large Bowls
Paring knife
Ziplock bag
9 inch pie plate
COOKING TEMPERATURE AND TIME:
400 degrees
25-35 minutes
We took this recipe right off the Keebler graham cracker box. It's called an Apple Betty. Of course, I changed their recipe. I didn't like some of the things they did. I increased the number of graham crackers, decreased the amount of sugar, eliminated the layers, increased the number of apples, and changed the cooking temperature.
We preheated the oven at 400 degrees, then Brandon peeled the apples.
I cut the apples into chunks.
After we put the graham crackers in a ziplock bag, McCann pounded on them to make a crumble. At first with his hands...
then with his feet. We then mixed the crushed graham crackers with 1/4 cup sugar.
We then mixed, 6 medium cooking apples (peeled, cored and chopped), 1/4 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
Next, we put the apple mixture at the bottom of the pie plate and sprinkled the graham cracker mixture on top...Dang it! I forgot something.
I was supposed to cut the butter into small cubes and mix it in with the apples. Oops! I cut them into tabs and placed them on top. Doubt this will work, but what else am I supposed to do. We'll have to do it right next time... Next, we baked it in the oven for 20-35 minutes.
This is the final product.
Scoop it out onto a plate and serve alone or with vanilla ice cream. Eat and enjoy.
